Construction of the New Hulsberg district in Bremen on a positive trajectory - Community Building Purchases "Happy Carefree" Land

Progress on the New Hulsberg district in Bremen remains promising, with Building Co-operative securing the land known as "Happy Free" for development.

In the heart of Bremen's New Hulsberg Quarter, the last remaining apartments in the "Frida" building are expected to be allocated soon. This community-focused housing project, which has been in development for over four years, is set to become home to 35 individuals aged between 47 and 81, living together in an ecologically and solidarity-based manner.

The "Frida" building will span three stories and an attic, creating a total of 34 apartments ranging from 30 to 105 square meters. The property, named "Hallo Sorgenfrei," is located adjacent to the rear of the existing residential street "Sorgenfrei."

Senator Öczlem Ünsal has praised the "Frida" building community as a regional beacon, particularly in challenging economic times. Florian Kommer, meanwhile, encourages interested Bremen residents to explore communal building projects through Wohnprojekte e. V., as more building community plots in the city are expected to be offered in the second half of 2025.

The redevelopment of the Klinikum Bremen-Mitte has freed up a nearly 14-hectare area in Bremen's eastern suburbs, providing potential for at least 160 housing units through communal building and living actors in the coming years.

It's worth noting that while the "Frida" building community plans to move into their new home in 2026, the status and timeline for the "Hallo Sorgenfrei" communal housing project specifically in Bremen's eastern suburbs remains undetailed beyond mid-2025. For accurate and current information, we recommend checking local Bremen municipal planning resources, official project websites, or contacting local housing authorities directly.

Other building communities in Bremen include the "Karls," "Fidas," and "Lankes." The "Frida" building community's goal is to live communally, as ecologically and solidarity-based as possible, and they are not alone in their pursuit of sustainable living.

  1. Senator Öczlem Ünsal appreciates the "Frida" building as a local model, emphasizing its value during trying economic times, as it focuses on communal living, a concept encouraged by Florian Kommer through Wohnprojekte e. V., particularly in real-estate development projects like the upcoming communal housing in Bremen's eastern suburbs.
  2. Potential investors looking to support ecologically and solidarity-based real-estate investing could consider supporting the development of communal housing projects in Bremen, such as the "Hallo Sorgenfrei" in the eastern suburbs, inspired by the success of the "Frida" building community in the New Hulsberg Quarter.
