Polestar Delivers 54,600 Vehicles in 2023, Boosts Emission Reduction Efforts
Electric vehicle manufacturer Polestar has reported a 6% increase in car deliveries, reaching around 54,600 vehicles in 2023. The company has also announced significant steps towards reducing emissions in its supply chain and operations.
Polestar's growth is evident in its delivery figures, which show a steady increase from 2022. The company is not only expanding its production but also its commitment to sustainability. It has partnered with Geely and Renault Korea Motors to start manufacturing vehicles in Busan, South Korea by the end of 2024.
In its quest to reduce emissions, Polestar is focusing on its ocean freight shipments. It currently uses renewable fuels for 75% of its vehicle transport from China to Europe, a move that significantly reduces its carbon footprint. The company plans to extend this initiative to North America by the second half of 2023, as production of the Polestar 3 expands to South Carolina. Polestar is working with several partners, including Maersk, to make this transition possible.
Polestar's commitment to sustainability is not limited to its production and transportation. It operates its vehicle processing centre in Zeebrugge, Belgium, using 100% renewable electricity. The company is also decarbonising its intercontinental inbound and service parts distribution by ocean, using B30 biofuel, which reduces greenhouse gas emissions by 84%.
Polestar's ambitious goal is to achieve climate neutrality by 2040, eliminating greenhouse gas emissions across its operations and car lifecycles. With its recent initiatives, the company is well on its way to meeting this target.
