Pirna Bypass Bridge Extension Completed, Easing Traffic Congestion
Construction of the Pirna bypass bridge began in August 2017 and is set to be completed by 2026. This week, another section was added to the bridge, which is expected to ease traffic congestion and reduce pollution in the city of Pirna upon completion.
The bridge, part of the B172, is a significant component of the Pirna bypass project. It includes the Kohlberg tunnel and bridges over the Seidewitz and S173. The first section, 92 meters long, was installed in June 2022 over pillars one and two. This week, another section was pushed over the piers towards Kohlberg, extending the bridge by another 120 meters. The installation required a 24-hour closure of the B172. Once finished, the 916-meter-long bridge over the Gottleuba valley gorge is expected to significantly reduce traffic, noise, and pollutant emissions in Pirna.
The bridge construction is progressing steadily, with another section added this week. Upon completion in 2026, the Pirna bypass, including this bridge, is expected to provide substantial relief to the city of Pirna.
