Paris Saint-Germain Contemplates Acquiring FC Barcelona's Top Talent, According to Relevo Reports

Paris Saint-Germain is monitoring the potential future of a prominent FC Barcelona player as the contract of one of their own players nears expiration, as reported by Relevo, which relied on unnamed sources for its information.

Nuno Mendes' contract expires on June 30, 2026, but PSG risks losing him for a reduced fee the following summer, as he will enter the final 12 months of his agreement starting in July.

Manchester United, a heavyweight in the Premier League, is poised to potentially acquire the Portuguese star, and of course, they share a history with Sporting CP in Lisbon, where Mendes previously played under the Red Devils' new head coach Ruben Amorim.

Should PSG be forced to sell Mendes for a reduced fee or lose him for free 18 months later, they will need to find a high-profile replacement for the 22-year-old left-back.

This is where Barcelona's Alejandro Balde could fit the bill, and PSG is reportedly keeping close tabs on his situation, according to Relevo and its transfer market expert Matteo Moretto.

Balde officially signed with his boyhood club in September 2023 and committed to staying until mid-2028.

At present, he holds an undisputed starting role in Hansi Flick's lineup, with little competition other than a struggling Gerard Martin and a potential reunion with Lionel Messi at Inter Miami.

When Mendes becomes a free agent, that would be the last summer window in which Barcelona could potentially gain significantly from selling Balde. At that point, PSG could then test Barcelona's resolve with an offer for the Spain international.

Balde is currently valued at $51.5 million (€50 million) by expert website Transfermarkt, a price that could rise if he maintains his status as a first-team regular over the next couple of seasons.

Ideally, Barca could benefit from acquiring another top-tier left-back, such as Alphonso Davies. However, the Canadian star seems more likely to renew his contract at Bayern Munich or join Real Madrid instead of reuniting with his former boss at Barcelona.

  1. PSG might consider Alejandro Balde as a replacement for Nuno Mendes, with reports suggesting that they are closely monitoring his situation at Barcelona.
  2. If Manchester United manages to acquire Mendes from PSG, Barcelona could have an opportunity to sell Balde to the French club the following summer, given his contract expiration in 2028.
  3. Alphonso Davies, the Canadian star currently at Bayern Munich, might be a top-tier left-back option for Barcelona, but it seems more likely that he will renew his contract in Germany or join Real Madrid instead.
  4. Hansi Flick, the current manager of Bayern Munich, previously coached Lionel Messi at Barcelona, raising the possibility of the Argentine joining his team if Alphonso Davies were to leave.
