Organizations in the business sector have provided financial backing to Charlie Kirk's Turning Point USA for prolonged periods
In the world of conservative activism, Turning Point USA (TPUSA) has been a prominent figure for over a decade. Founded by Charlie Kirk in 2012, the nonprofit organisation has been facilitating debates on conservative ideas on college campuses ever since.
The organisation has seen significant support from various philanthropic entities. For instance, in 2014, the Ed Uihlein Family Foundation, operated by Richard Uihlein, contributed $50,000 to TPUSA. Fast forward to 2023, The Bradley Impact Fund donated over $8.1 million, and the Donors Trust foundation contributed over 1 million US dollars. The Dunn Foundation also contributed over $1 million, and the Marcus Foundation donated $2.5 million to TPUSA in the same year.
The Bradley Impact Fund serves as philanthropic advisors, aiming to advance common principles based on donor intent. Similarly, the Dunn Foundation supports groups that advance political and economic liberty through education and persuasion.
Another significant contributor is the Deason Foundation, led by Doug Deason. The foundation has made several $250,000 contributions to TPUSA in recent years. Foster Friess, a Republican donor, has also been known to help finance TPUSA.
The Thomas W. Smith Foundation, founded by hedge fund manager and philanthropist Thomas W. Smith, has also supported TPUSA. The foundation gave $100,000 to TPUSA in 2016, adding to its list of contributions to a range of arts and educational institutions as well as public policy organizations.
TPUSA has experienced a dramatic rise in interest following the assassination of Charlie Kirk last week in Utah. This tragic event has led to over 37,000 inquiries to start new campus chapters. As of the current state, TPUSA has 900 official college chapters and about 1,200 high school chapters.
Before launching TPUSA, Charlie Kirk was encouraged by Bill Montgomery, a Tea Party activist. Kirk decided to launch the organisation instead of attending college, aiming to make a difference in the conservative movement from an early age.
The legacy of Charlie Kirk and TPUSA continues to impact the conservative landscape, fostering debates and spreading conservative ideas across college and high school campuses in the United States.
