Omoda and Jaecoo set new benchmark with their market share in the UK
Chinese Brands Omoda and Jaecoo Make a Splash in the UK Market
In a significant development for the UK automotive industry, Chinese brands Omoda and Jaecoo, owned by Chery, are preparing for their UK launch next month. The announcement, made by Gary Lan, confirms that these brands are just getting started in the UK market.
The combined sales of Omoda and Jaeco have already made a significant impact, registering more cars in the UK than Dacia, Citroen, Honda, Seat, and MINI, so far in 2025. In fact, for the year-to-date, Omoda has registered 8,815 cars and Jaecoo has registered 10,314 cars in the UK.
Gary Lan noted that Omoda and Jaecoo are not only competing with but in some cases outperforming long-established brands. He stated that the brands have earned the trust of thousands of UK drivers. In July alone, Omoda registered 1,874 cars and Jaecoo registered 1,915 cars in the UK. This strong performance in July, according to Lan, is not just a spike, but the beginning of something much bigger.
The Tiggo 8, a plug-in hybrid SUV from Chery, will start at £28,545 in the UK. Omoda and Jaecoo are building trust, proving themselves, and giving customers more than they expect.
The success of these brands can be attributed to several factors. High consumer demand for feature-rich SUVs covering internal combustion engine (ICE), hybrid, and electric vehicle (EV) models is one such factor. The notable success of recent model launches, especially the JAECOO 7, is another. The expanding dealership infrastructure, improving customer accessibility, and anticipated future product introductions supporting ongoing growth are also key factors.
Despite a 4.02% decrease in registrations, MG has registered 48,254 cars so far in 2025. BYD took a 2.27% share of the UK new car market in July, and year-to-date, BYD has registered 22,574 cars in the UK. Gary Lan's comments suggest that the UK market is hungry for something new. MG's year-to-date registrations are not far off volume brands like Peugeot, Nissan, and Hyundai.
Omoda and Jaecoo's UK boss, Gary Lan, expressed pride in the brands' performance in July. With the upcoming introduction of new flagship models like the JAECOO 5 and anticipated launches of the OMODA 7 and JAECOO 8 later in 2025, it seems that the growth of these brands in the UK market is set to continue.
