Oklahoma to Debate Bitcoin Freedom Act in 60th Legislative Session
Oklahoma is set to debate a controversial bill during its 60th legislative session, starting February 3, 2025. The Bitcoin Freedom Act, also known as SB325, aims to protect citizens' purchasing power by offering Bitcoin as an alternative to the dollar. The bill, introduced by Republican Senator Dusty Deevers, seeks to shield Oklahomans from the impacts of inflation and uncontrolled federal spending.
SB325, if passed, will allow state employees and vendors to receive Bitcoin payments on a voluntary basis. This move aligns with Oklahoma's ambition to become a leader in adopting financial technologies and Bitcoin. The bill ensures all cryptocurrency transactions comply with existing financial regulations.
Oklahoma is not pioneering this idea. States like Florida, Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Alabama are also exploring Bitcoin adoption. However, Oklahoma's bill is unique as it also includes provisions to restrict certain teachings in schools related to race and gender.
The Bitcoin Freedom Act's debate will commence in the upcoming legislative session. If passed, it will offer Oklahomans a new financial option, protect them from inflation, and position the state as a leader in cryptocurrency adoption. However, the bill's broader implications on education remain a contentious issue.
