Norway's Normod Carbon to Build €250m CO2 Hub in Denmark by 2029

Norway's Normod Carbon has secured exclusive rights and customer commitments with Denmark's Port of Grenaa to develop a €250m carbon dioxide hub. The project, set to begin operations in 2029, will handle up to 10 million tonnes of CO2 a year, playing a significant role in the region's climate goals.

The Grenaa hub, part of Normod's larger plan to create a network of CO2 hubs handling over 20 million tonnes per year, will serve as an intermediate storage site. This approach can reduce CO2 transport costs by over 25%. The project aligns with Denmark's ambition to become a key node in the emerging CO2 'superhighway', facilitating cross-border carbon management and supporting CCS and carbon removal initiatives.

More than 80% of Normod's CO2 portfolio is biogenic, backed by permanent CO2 removal certificates. The Port of Grenaa's CEO, Henrik Carstensen, views the project as crucial for the port to contribute to climate targets. Normod has already signed letters of intent with four industrial operators for 6.4 million tonnes per annum, covering the first phase of the project.

Normod Carbon's Grenaa hub, set to commence operations in 2029, will handle 10 million tonnes of CO2 annually. The project, part of a wider Northern European CO2 network, will reduce transport costs and support Denmark's role in cross-border carbon management.
