Shake-up at Nigeria's National Petroleum Company: 200 Employees Encouraged to Call it Quits

NNPC urges employees with one year left until retirement to submit their resignation letters.

Get the latest scoop from our website: the NNPCL has reportedly encouraged around 200 staff members, who are nearing retirement, to tender their resignations.

This decision was made following the dismissal of several top guns, including the Group Managing Directors of National Petroleum Investment Management Services (NAPIMS) stations in Port Harcourt, Warri, and Kaduna, all of whom were let go on a Wednesday.

As of now, a detailed list of the affected staff is yet to be released, but according to insider intel, personnel with just one year left on their service have been advised to hang up their boots.

"Here's the deal - aside from Bala Wunti (former NAPIMS chief) and the trio of refinery GMDs, NNPCL is asking employees with only a year left to retire," revealed a moley source to the Nation.

Another anonymous source shed some light, stating that "Bala Wunti wasn't actually sacked, he retired. He was due to retire next year as well."

To date, NNPCL's Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Olufemi Soneye, hasn't confirmed the news.

It's said that the NNPCL CEO, Bashir Bayo Ojulari, was the one who gave the pink slip to Wunti and the managing director of the Port Harcourt Refinery, Onoja, as part of a management reshuffle.

After taking charge, Ojulari has already made a few changes in the top brass. Just last month, he announced an eight-member management team on April 4.
