Completion of N3 Pipeline's Maintenance Plant Enlargement Projected for 2027 - New update on the N3 maintenance plant expansion: Finalized for completion by 2027.

The N3 Maintenance Facility in Arnstadt, a joint venture between Lufthansa Technik AG and Rolls-Royce, is currently undergoing an expansion as part of the xDREAM growth programme, aiming to increase the existing plant's capacity and construct a dedicated logistics center in Thuringia.

The objective of the expansion is to boost the facility's annual Rolls-Royce Trent engine overhauls from the current 150–200 to at least 250, with a vision to reach 270 engines per year. This ambitious project is expected to be completed by early 2027, ensuring minimal disruptions to ongoing operations.

N3 specializes in the comprehensive maintenance of Rolls-Royce Trent engines, including overhaul, component repair, and engineering process optimization. To date, the facility has overhauled more than 1,730 engines. The operation currently employs around 1,100 people, including 41 apprentices, in a workshop, office, and test facility spanning over 40,000 m².

The investment volume in the facilities and technologies amounts to approximately 180 million euros as of 2025. The expansion includes the addition of a building to an existing workshop and the expansion of the line for cleaning engine components. The logistics center's high-bay storage system is designed for efficient storage of large-volume goods through dynamic height adjustment.

The expansion will substantially boost Rolls-Royce’s Trent engine overhaul capacity in Europe, enhancing maintenance availability and operational reliability for customers. By increasing throughput and modernizing facilities, Rolls-Royce and Lufthansa Technik strengthen their competitive position in the global engine maintenance market.

The project creates new career opportunities, welcoming skilled professionals and offering internal training programs for people transitioning into aviation engine overhaul. Leadership changes, such as the appointment of Holger Sindemann as Director and General Manager, underscore a strong commitment to operational excellence and regulatory compliance at the Arnstadt site.

In addition, the Thuringian facility generated a turnover of almost one billion euros last year, an increase of around 18% compared to 2023. The expansion is a strategic growth initiative with positive implications for the region’s aerospace industry and workforce.
