New proposal unveiled for "Wilstorf 43" project: Harburg Huus yet to secure new location

Revamping the DRK Harburg Huus: A Look at the Upcoming Project in Hamburg, Germany

Hamburg's famous DRK Harburg Huus at Wilstorf 43 is gearing up for change, but the details are still under wraps. This iconic facility, situated in the heart of Harburg district, serves diverse functions within its brick buildings near Hohen Straße, Außenmühlenweg, and the Stadtautobahn.

For the past two years, the DRK district association has been in search of a new location due to the lease expiring at the end of 2022. The original plan to incorporate the DRK Harburg Huus into the new project has hit a roadblock. As of now, the facility remains on-site thanks to the project's delay, with only short-term six-month lease agreements in place.

In an exclusive interview, Nicolai Panke, head of the DRK district association, shared some hopeful news. "We're seeing some promising talks. The Harburg-Huus is an indispensable facility in the district and will undoubtedly continue to operate."

Bebauungsplan Wilstorf 43 aims to transform the primarily commercial areas at Hohen Straße 15 and Außenmühlenweg 10-10b for future development. The plan also aims to address the escalating housing demand in the city.

The draft for the Bebauungsplan Wilstorf 43 is all set to go public digitally from 13 January 2025 to 14 February 2025 at https://bauleitplanung.hamburg.de. Additionally, hard copies of documents will be available for viewing at the Zentrum für Wirtschaftsförderung, Bauen und Umwelt, Harburger Rathausplatz 2, on Tuesdays and Thursdays (each from 9 to 15 o'clock).

While the specifics of the DRK Harburg Huus redevelopment may not be widely available, it's a project worth keeping an eye on. Stay tuned for updates as more information becomes available from the local DRK branch, Hamburg’s urban development portal, or local news sources.

As the DRK district association navigates the lease situation for DRK Harburg Huus, alternative financing options for its real-estate investment may be pursued. The upcoming Bebauungsplan Wilstorf 43 could potentially influence the future of the DRK Harburg Huus, as it aims to develop the areas surrounding the facility to address growing housing demands in Hamburg.
