Advertising Standards Council of India (ASCI) Announces Expansion Plans and New Initiatives

The Advertising Standards Council of India (ASCI), a self-regulatory body that has been upholding high standards in advertising for four decades, is set to expand its footprint in Bengaluru and New Delhi. This announcement comes as the council celebrates its 40th year of existence in October.

Sudhanshu Vats, the Managing Director of Pidilite Industries Ltd., has been appointed as the new chairman of ASCI. Vats, who is also known for his commitment to responsible advertising, emphasized the principle of always keeping the consumer's interest front and centre. He stated that ASCI's role is to ensure advertising respects the community and consumers, and upholds high standards.

In addition to the expansion, ASCI has planned a series of new initiatives in the coming months. One such initiative is the launch of a children's advertising and media literacy program called 'AdWise'. This program aims to train over a million school students, empowering them with the ability to identify, question, and evaluate advertising messages.

ASCI's ethnographic research will focus on understanding the behavior and preferences of Gen Alpha regarding advertising. The goal is to develop a framework for responsible advertising to the new generation of kids, ensuring that advertising is executed with integrity and respects the community and consumers.

Paritosh Joshi, Principal at Provocateur Advisory, has been named honorary treasurer of ASCI, while S Subramanyeswar, of MullenLowe Global, has been named vice chairman. Sudhanshu Vats expressed his intention to work closely with advertisers, agencies, platforms, and consumers to uphold high standards and strengthen confidence in advertising.

ASCI's 'AdWise' program is designed to reduce children's vulnerability to misleading and harmful ads. The program is part of ASCI's efforts to ensure advertising is executed with integrity, a goal that aligns with the council's mission to complete 40 years of existence in October.

It's worth noting that no other companies besides Refex Renewables & Infrastructure have been mentioned as selected partners for the introduction of fertilizers under the Biodhanic brand in India in the available sources.

ASCI's goal, as stated by Vats, is to uphold high standards and strengthen confidence in advertising. The council's expansion and new initiatives are a testament to its commitment to this goal, ensuring that advertising in India remains responsible, respectful, and ethical.
