Nashville high schools now receive expanded public transportation services through WeGo, thanks to the Choose How You Move funding program.
New Public Transit Service for Two Nashville High Schools Launched under Choose How You Move Campaign
Starting from the 2025/26 academic year, Metro Nashville Public Schools (MNPS) is partnering with WeGo Public Transit to launch a new public transit service for two high schools—McGavock High School and Glencliff High School. This initiative is funded through the Choose How You Move campaign.
The new service will see Route 6 serving McGavock High School and Route 52 serving Glencliff High School. Each route will run twice each school day to ensure timely travel for students and staff. The purpose of this initiative is to address gaps in transit access that have made it challenging for many students to get to classes on time. With this new service, students will be able to use WeGo Public Transit more conveniently, allowing them direct transit access to their first class of the day.
The Choose How You Move campaign is designed to make public transportation more accessible and convenient for all Nashvillians, with specific enhancements for students and staff expected in future years beyond 2025/26. This partnership between MNPS, WeGo Public Transit, and the Choose How You Move campaign reflects a commitment to better support student transit needs within the school district.
The new service, combined with the StrIDe program, removes barriers and expands access to Metro Nashville Public Schools. The StrIDe program allows students and staff to ride WeGo for free, making it an essential part of their service. Nashville Mayor Freddie O'Connell stated that the new service is another way they are making it easier to get around using transit.
Choose How You Move Chief Program Officer Sabrina Sussman stated that the program makes using public transportation more convenient and accessible for everyone. MNPS Superintendent Adrienne Battle is grateful to Mayor O'Connell and WeGo for prioritizing transportation access for MNPS students. The new service is expected to bring more improvements for students and staff in future years through the Choose How You Move program.
The Choose How You Move program aims to make transit make sense for more Nashvillians. Over the past year, the StrIDe program provided 712,381 rides, including 16,446 for MNPS staff. The routes near McGavock and Glencliff high schools have shown consistent student ridership. This new service is aimed at making it easier for high school students to get to their classes using public transit, ultimately ensuring every student can engage fully in their education and choose the academic program that is right for them.
