MSNBC Announces Crucial Timeline as It Divides from Associated Network NBC News

On October 6, MSNBC will undergo a significant transformation as it becomes a standalone news network, rebranded as MS NOW. This spinoff entity, named Versant, will operate independently with its own set of standards guidance.

In preparation for this separation, which is expected to be completed later this year as part of a spinoff from Comcast, MSNBC has been building up its own newsroom. The network is recruiting for 50 roles, including positions in newsgathering, digital, audio, and specials.

One of the key figures joining MSNBC full-time from NBC News is Christina Wilkie, who recently joined NBC News as senior editor at the network's business and economy unit. Prior to this, she spent eight years at CNBC Digital, most recently as senior editor of the politics and economy desk.

However, not all familiar faces will be making the move to MSNBC. Steve Kornacki, the data and polling guru, has chosen to stay at NBC News.

On October 6, MSNBC staffers who have accepted roles at the network will become official full-time employees, appearing solely on the cable network. During this transition, Versant will continue to have access to the NBC News Decision Desk through the end of the year.

From October 6, MSNBC will no longer rely on NBC News for news coverage, except for DC operations. Among the figures joining MSNBC full-time from NBC News are Jacob Soboroff, Vaughn Hillyard, Ken Dilanian, and Antonia Hylton.

On October 20, MSNBC will no longer rely on NBC News for Washington, D.C. coverage. Matthews announced that on this date, MSNBC will be fully operational on its own, domestically, internationally, and through DC.

As Versant embarks on this new chapter, it will continue to provide the in-depth news coverage that MSNBC viewers have come to expect, while operating with its own unique identity and standards.
