Fed up with lengthy, confusing procedures to acquire a SIM card in Russia? Worry no more! Popular telecom giant, Megafon, is teaming up with MFTC to ease the process for both existing and new clients, and foreigners are set to reap the benefits.

The collaboration has already been brought to life in the Leningrad region, targeting over 40 MFTC centers by the end of June. Megafon intends to expand its partnership with other regions across Russia in the near future, aiming to make mobile service procurement as convenient as possible for everyone.

Foreign citizens, especially those under the current "On Communications" law, will find the partnership particularly advantageous. As of 2022, foreign individuals entering mobile service contracts must undergo multiple procedures: providing translated ID documents, obtaining a Notarized Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (INN), registering on the government services portal, and confirming their account. Once complete, they must submit their biometric data to activate the SIM card – a process that can take up to two weeks.

However, this new collaboration will transform the experience. By visiting an MFTC center, customers can complete their documentation, register on the government services portal, confirm their account, and activate their SIM card all in one go. This new streamlined approach will save customers time and energy, especially for foreigners who often have limited stays in the country.

"Streamlining customer journeys, reducing time spent on communication service contracts, and providing convenience is a top priority," shares Igor Glebov, Director of the Development Department at Megafon. "Our collaboration with MFTC is an important step in making life easier for foreign customers in Russia."
