Ministry withdraws live service for apostille verification in Minsk
Starting tomorrow, August 19, the Main Consular Department of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) will only accept documents for apostille by prior appointment. This shift aims to manage workflow and ensure processing efficiency, a common practice in many consular or government offices.
The department limits the number of people to 50 per appointment, and the daily limit for document submission is 120. Appointments can be made at the Main Consular Department (Karl Marx Street, 37a) on working days (except Wednesdays) from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM.
Visitors are advised to visit the official Ministry of Foreign Affairs website or the consular services portal of Belarus for the most accurate and updated appointment booking system. Alternatively, one can contact them via phone or email as provided on the official site to inquire about appointment requirements and the process.
It's important to note that yesterday, August 18, was the last chance to get an apostille through the live queue. The old system, where people would arrive between 6:00 AM and 7:00 AM and form a paper list, is no longer in use.
In case you had come on August 19, you would have had to wait for your appointment, with appointments being scheduled as late as September 18, according to some sources.
Interestingly, the Main Regional Justice Departments and Minsk city executive committee still accept documents for apostille by live queue. However, it's best to confirm the specific requirements for each office before visiting.
The apostille fee for one document remains 5 BYN (approximately 210 rubles). It's possible that there are two separate queues - one for self-service (faster) and one for proxy (slower).
In a related development, the Ministry of Education introduced a prior electronic appointment system for documents related to education on March 3. This system may serve as a model for future improvements in the apostille submission process at the MFA.
In summary, appointments for apostille submissions are now mandatory at the Main Consular Department of the Belarusian MFA. It's recommended to check and book via the official resources of the Belarus Ministry of Foreign Affairs or contact them directly for a hassle-free experience.
