A New Chapter for Vodafone: Former Microsoft Executive Nabs CFO Post

Breaking news! Pilar López, a seasoned pro in the tech world, is set to be Vodafone's new Chief Financial Officer (CFO)—taking over from Luka Mucic who, come November, will take on a new role as CEO of the real estate developer Vonovia.

Currently, Mucic serves as Vodafone's shortest-tenured CFO, with just under two years under his belt. Prior to Vodafone, he distinguished himself as the Chief Financial Officer of SAP SE, where he was renowned for his international leadership, corporate repositioning, and value-creation expertise[4][5].

Stepping into Mucic's shoes, López boasts a notable career path. Having held several key positions at Microsoft, she most recently played a pivotal role in establishing a partnership between Microsoft and the London Stock Exchange Group. Before Microsoft, she spent 16 years at Telefónica, Spain's largest telecoms operator, climbing the ranks to become the CFO of its European operations[1][2].

López will officially join forces with Vodafone on October 1, 2025, producing an official appointment in December.

"I'm absolutely stoked to join Vodafone during such a pivotal time in the Group’s transformation," López expresses. "I can't wait to team up with Margherita and the rest of the squad as we redouble our efforts to enhance customer service, streamline operations, and bolster free cash flow growth."

And the cherry on top? López's salary package is nothing to sneeze at. She'll be taking home a base wage of £725,000, eligible for a 200% bonus[3].

Jean-François van Boxmeer, Chairman of Vodafone Group, says, "After a comprehensive, rigorous hunt for the perfect candidate, I'm beyond thrilled to welcome Pilar to Vodafone and our Board. Not only does she bring a wealth of experience from the finance, telecoms, and technology sectors across Europe, but she's a fantastic addition to our team."
