Krasnoyarsk Metro Tunnels Nearing Major Milestone
The metro tunneling in Krasnoyarsk is making steady progress – the Catherine and Solomeya shields are about to break through the 1000-meter barrier! As of now, the machinery has arrived at the auxiliary subterranean structures on Ulitsa Shahterov.
Both machines have reached the auxiliary subterranean structure PK153, located between Ulitsa Polarnaya and Ulitsa Gagarina," reported the Transport Logistics Center. The shields are currently at a depth of 38 meters and are set to descend closer to the river Kacha soon.
The metro workers are busy with technical maintenance of the shields. Specialists from Bamtunnelstroi–Most are inspecting the cutting parts of the tunnel boring machines and preparing the equipment for the next leg of the journey.
"After technical maintenance, the complexes will continue boring the transit tunnels and are expected to reach the 1000-meter mark on each of the transit tunnels at each subterranean structure," noted Andy Osipov, the project's chief engineer from Bamtunnelstroi–Most.
The shields will make their next stop at another subterranean structure, PK 141, located near the Ka cha, on Ulitsa Konstitutsiya 23 and 27. Construction of boundary structures for the excavation pit has begun there.

In total, six subterranean structures will be built on the first line of the metro, from the Northwest to Vzletka: these auxiliary objects are necessary for installing ventilation systems, evacuation exits, and other production structures.
The Catherine and Salome shields are expected to reach the Ulitsa Karla Marksa station near the city hall by the end of the year. They will then be dismantled and moved to the Ploshchad Revolutsiya station pit, where they will be launched in reverse direction: such are the tunneling technologies.
On the other side, from the plaza to the station, the Aнастасия and Irina shields will embark on their underground journey. The Valentina shield, along with Aнастаsiya, will travel from the Vozkalnaya station to the Ulitsa Kopilova station.
Construction of boundary structures is currently underway at the city hall and the railway stations, while the structures at Ploshchad Revolutsiya are already complete; work on the pit itself has begun.
