Mercedes-Benz India Sales Soar on BEV Demand, Luxury Segment Growth
Mercedes-Benz India has reported a strong quarter, with Battery-Electric Vehicles (BEVs) accounting for 8% of sales. The EQS SUV led the charge, achieving its highest sales yet. The luxury carmaker's Managing Director & CEO, Santosh Iyer, credited this success to an attractive new portfolio and innovative financial programmes.
The Long Wheelbase E-Class sedan emerged as the highest-selling luxury car in India, with a remarkable 47% year-on-year growth in the second quarter. This model, along with SUVs GLC, GLE, GLS, and G63 AMG, all achieved their highest monthly sales ever in September. The luxury segment as a whole saw a 12% growth compared to the previous year, representing 25% penetration this quarter.
Mercedes-Benz India's second-quarter sales reached 5,119 units, reflecting a 4% year-on-year increase. The 'Made in India' SUV range, comprising GLA, GLC, GLE, and GLS, contributed significantly to this success. The company's highest monthly sales in September were driven by GST 2.0 reforms and festive demand, with over 2,500 cars sold, marking a 36% increase from the previous year.
Santosh Iyer, Managing Director & CEO of Mercedes-Benz India, oversaw these record-breaking results. Despite macro-economic challenges such as adverse forex movement and rising operational costs, the reduction in GST rates improved customer sentiment, fueling this impressive sales performance.
