Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Extends Rent Control to Ease University City Pressures
The state government of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern has stepped in to ease housing pressures in the university cities of Rostock and Greifswald. Due to the tense market situation, they've decided to extend rent control measures.
The extension, set to last until September 30, 2028, will cap rent increases at ten percent above the local comparative rent. This move aims to provide security and affordability for tenants in the region. While the Minister for Building who initiated this procedure remains unnamed, Christian Pegel, the Minister for Interior and Building, is mentioned in connection with the decision.
The extended rent control, effective until 2028, will apply to most properties, with exceptions for new buildings or comprehensively modernized apartments. This measure is expected to bring stability to the housing market in Rostock and Greifswald.
