The Central German Transport Association (MDV) has announced an increase in ticket prices for passengers, effective from August 1st, 2025. The new prices are a response to rising daily operating costs and increased wages.

In the cities of Halle and Leipzig, as well as the districts of Leipzig, Nordsachsen, Saalekreis, Burgenlandkreis, and Landkreis Altenburger Land, single journeys will now cost 3.60 euros in Leipzig (an increase of 0.10 euros) and 3.40 euros in Halle (an increase of 0.40 euros).

Two-zone tickets in Leipzig will now cost 4.80 euros, an increase of 0.30 euros, while three-zone tickets will cost 6.60 euros, an increase of 0.40 euros. The four-hour valid association-wide ticket now costs 14.20 euros, an increase of 0.80 euros.

It is important to note that the MDV's association area does not include any specific locations mentioned in this article. Local rail services in the districts of Wittenberg and Anhalt-Bitterfeld, as well as in the city of Dessau-Roßlau, are also part of the MDV's association area.

The average increase in ticket prices is between five to six percent. Despite the increase in passenger numbers due to the affordable Germany ticket, the MDV has not seen higher revenues for transport providers.

The MDV provides information about all ticket price changes on their official website, and it is recommended to consult their latest published fare tables for the exact updated fare structure and changes from previous prices. The news only mentions the price hike without detailed breakdowns.

The affordable Germany ticket, which has led to an increase in passenger numbers, has not resulted in higher revenues for transport providers. This is likely due to the increased costs associated with the price hike, including increased wages and daily operating costs.
