Maruti Set to Standardize 6 Airbags in Baleno and Fronx Models? Learn About the Company's Upcoming Plans

Hey there! Get ready for some safe rides, folks! Maruti Suzuki, known for churning out affordable and mileage-friends cars, is stepping up its game—and your safety—by upgrading its lineup with 6 airbags. In the past few months, a bunch of models, such as Eeco, Wagon R, Alto K10, Brezza, and Celerio, have already received this safety upgrade as standard. But Maruti's not stopping there! They've got plans to roll out 6 airbags as a standard safety kit across their entire model lineup.

RC Bhargava, Chairman of Maruti Suzuki, spilled the beans about this to Autocar India. He confirmed that all cars from the brand will boast 6 airbags as standard before 2025 ends. And get this—he said, "We're having 6 airbags in virtually all our cars this year."

Currently, six of their models—the Baleno, Fronx, Ignis, Ertiga, XL6, and S-Presso—are yet to join the six-airbag army. However, some higher variants of the Fronx and Baleno already offer side and curtain airbags, so their top-end prices might remain unchanged. But, buckle up, because the entry-level variants of these models are likely to see a price hike.

The Fronx starts at a wallet-friendly Rs 7.55 lakh, while the Baleno begins at Rs 6.70 lakh, ex-showroom. Expect the prices of the Ignis, S-Presso, Ertiga, and XL6 to follow suit, following the lead of the Celerio, which underwent a significant price increase of up to Rs 32,500 after receiving 6 airbags.

Maruti is working overtime to enhance safety. The new fourth-generation Maruti Dzire recently earned a whopping 5-star rating from Global NCAP, marking a significant leap for the brand. Dzire becomes the first Maruti car to get a 5-star rating from Global NCAP.

However, not all Maruti models have fared well in past Global NCAP safety tests. Cars like the Alto K10 (2 stars), Wagon R (1 star), S-Presso (1 star), and Ignis (1 star) have scored poorly. But worry not! Maruti is determined to step up its safety game, aiming to make their cars park-worthy for all.
