The Bentayga Speed, the latest offering from Bentley, blends grit and grandeur, much like the iconic character John Dutton III from the show Yellowstone or the frontier folk who helped shape Montana. This high-performance SUV is not just a luxury vehicle, but a testament to Bentley's commitment to performance and luxury.

Under the hood, the Bentayga Speed houses a 641 hp 4.0-liter twin-turbo V-8 engine, managed by a ZF eight-speed automatic transmission. The Sport mode increases suspension damping by an additional 15 percent, allowing for a more dynamic driving experience.

The Bentayga Speed's chassis has been adapted to handle the increased power, resulting in a vehicle that can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in a lightning-quick 3.4 seconds, with a top speed of 193 mph. The SUV also features all-wheel steering, making it agile and responsive, even on the racetrack.

However, the Bentayga Speed's off-road capabilities reveal another side, allowing for sharper turn-in and even controlled drifting. The E.S.C. Dynamic setting and optional carbon-ceramic brakes help the Bentayga Speed handle loose gravel on off-road conditions with ease.

The Bentayga Speed's ride is genteel in Comfort or Bentley mode, and the cabin is poshly dressed in two-tone leather with new diamond quilting developed solely for the Speed. The SUV offers an array of wood veneers, carbon-fiber, or brushed-aluminum trim selections, and the optional Naim for Bentley 20-speaker sound system.

The Bentayga Speed's exterior looks too tame for what lies beneath, according to the author. But a closer look reveals Speed-specific badging to set it apart. The SUV is also paired with an Akrapovic titanium exhaust that delivers a thunderclap-like sound, adding to its supercar-like feel.

The Bentayga Speed was recently tested at Montana's Jumping Horse Ranch, a fitting location given its rugged landscape that helped put the "wild" in the Wild West.

As for Bentley's future plans, the company's Beyond100 strategy, aiming for full electrification by 2030, has been pushed out five years due to regulatory influences. The first electric Bentley is still expected by 2026, but the Speed remains combustion-powered and a hybrid was not considered for this model.

Bentley is investing in a new "Dream Factory" at its Crewe site to support sustainable luxury car manufacturing. The company has confirmed its first battery-electric model will launch in 2025, assembled at Crewe and based on the PPE electric platform developed with Audi and Porsche. However, the first customer deliveries of an all-electric Bentley SUV are expected in 2027.

Despite the shift towards electrification, the Bentayga Speed stands as a testament to Bentley's commitment to performance and luxury. It channels its inner supercar with Launch Control, offering a driving experience that is as exhilarating as it is refined.
