Top-level talks aim to avert Lufthansa strike - Lufthansa Pilots Ready to Strike Again as Pension Talks Resume
Lufthansa pilots are prepared to strike again after a successful ballot, with the dispute revolving around occupational pensions. Vereinigung Cockpit, the main pilots' union, expects Lufthansa to present a new, negotiable offer in a top-level zoom meeting scheduled for Thursday. This comes after the last strike in 2022.
Pilots are hopeful for a resolution as Andreas Pinheiro, President of Vereinigung Cockpit, will meet with Lufthansa in Frankfurt am Main on Wednesday, October 8, 2025. Around 4,800 pilots at Lufthansa's core company and Lufthansa Cargo are affected by the pension provision issue.
Talks between Lufthansa and Vereinigung Cockpit have resumed, with both sides set to evaluate the Skype call's results and discuss further steps with the negotiating committee. Lufthansa's personnel director Michael Niggemann previously stated that the airline's financial room for maneuver had not increased, indicating potential challenges in reaching a compromise.
The top-level zoom meeting between Lufthansa and Vereinigung Cockpit on Thursday is crucial for resolving the ongoing pension dispute. Both parties will assess the outcomes and consider next steps, with pilots ready to strike if a satisfactory agreement is not reached.
