Lucerne's BUK to Decide on Ride-Hailing Fares and Taxi Fare Hike in September
The Building, Environment, and Mobility Commission of Lucerne's City Council (BUK) is set to make crucial decisions in September 2025. Key among these are adjustments to rental car trips and the introduction of a minimum fare for ride-hailing services in the city of Lucerne.
The committee, on traffic and mobility, has proposed a fare corridor for taxis, enabling them to quote a fixed price upon booking. Meanwhile, ride-hailing services will see a minimum fare implemented from 2026, around 7% lower than current taxi fares, excluding waiting times and surcharges. Exceptions to this minimum fare include medical rides and pre-booked rides scheduled at least an hour in advance.
The committee also recommended an increase in taxi fares, citing rising wages and operating costs. The city council is expected to deliberate and decide on these recommendations during its September session.
The BUK's September meeting promises significant changes in Lucerne's mobility landscape. The introduction of a minimum fare for ride-hailing services and potential taxi fare increases aim to foster fair competition and address rising costs in the industry.
