Building Block Creativity: The Design Process Behind Iconic LEGO Sets

From humble beginnings as a family-owned business in Denmark, established in 1932 by Ole Kirk Kristiansen, LEGO has grown into a global toy giant. Today, its products are sold in well over 120 nations around the world.

But what goes into creating those iconic LEGO sets that capture the creativity of millions of children and adults alike?

The design process typically starts with brainstorming sessions, where the LEGO design team draws inspiration from various sources, such as films, cultural happenings, and architectural designs. Sketches are then refined, accounting for dimensions and the necessary LEGO pieces, before prototypes are built and rigorously tested. iterations may be necessary to perfect the design. Once finalized, the set goes into production, ensuring each piece is accurately manufactured and assembled to match the design specifications.

From wooden toys to the first automatic binding brick in 1958, and onward to modern-day innovations, LEGO remains a family-owned company headquartered in Billund, Denmark.

Beyond the official sets, the vibrant LEGO community sees enthusiasts crafting custom models, known as MOCs (My Own Creation). These creations further spark the collective imagination, encouraging creativity and innovation.

Recent popular LEGO sets include the LEGO River Steamboat, showcasing the time, dedication, and extraordinary attention to detail that goes into every creation.
