DraftKings once again reigned supreme in the online sports betting (OSB) mobile application race, according to Eilers & Krejcik Gaming (EKG). This marks the second consecutive report where DraftKings clinched the top spot, even pulling slightly ahead of its mighty contender, FanDuel.

The research powerhouse praises the DraftKings app for its exceptional User Experience (UX), deep markets, and comprehensive feature set. However, the live streaming sometimes falters, and cash-out availability could use some work, as pointed out by EKG.

App-loving bettors place a high value on ease-of-use and technology when choosing sportsbook apps and sticking with them. Such polls and studies reveal that a top score from EKG can lead to increased user-attraction.

Rising Stars

Caesars Entertainment's Caesars Sportsbook ranks behind DraftKings, FanDuel, and BetMGM in terms of market share, but it's making strides in iGaming and tech advancements in sports betting. EKG recently lauded Caesars Sportsbook, marking its highest-ever rank in their OSB report at fifth place. The praise comes as Caesars Digital is becoming increasingly profitable, sparking talk of a potential spin-off, and raising discussions on whether online unit's progress is under-reflected in the stock price.

Room for Improvement

Fanatics continues to impress, earning the third spot after regular appearances in the top 5. EKG believes that Fanatics trails DraftKings and FanDuel by close margins and poses a formidable threat to claim the top spot in future editions of the survey. However, critics point out that BetMGM needs to sort out some issues like slow load times and laggy responsiveness to compete more effectively. A faster OSB app with enhanced features could make BetMGM a force to reckon with.

Fanatics: The Silent Challenger

In the current market, DraftKings and FanDuel hold the lion's share with around 71.5% combined market share[4]. Fanatics, though, is rapidly growing and poses a significant challenge for the duopoly in the future, thanks to innovative initiatives like FanCash and Fair Play[3][5].

Market Landscape

Over the past year, Fanatics has expanded significantly, growing its market share from roughly 0.5% to nearly 5%[2] and now holds sports betting licenses in over 15 U.S. markets[3]. This latest EKG report indicates a more dynamic market, with Fanatics potentially contesting the dominance of the current market leaders.

All in all, DraftKings maintains its lead, while newcomer Fanatics is poised to become a significant player in the US sports betting market, challenging the long-standing duopoly over time.

  1. The rise of mobile gaming, as exemplified by Fanatics, presents a significant challenge to the long-standing duopoly in sports betting, primarily DraftKings and FanDuel.
  2. In the realm of iGaming and sports betting, Caesars Entertainment's Caesars Sportsbook has been making strides in technology and advancements, elevating its position in the online sports betting mobile application race.
  3. The merger of sports betting with technology has opened up new avenues for finance, with companies like DraftKings capitalizing on the growing market by offering appealing features and a seamless user experience.
  4. The business of sports betting is undergoing a transformation, with companies like BetMGM aiming to compete more effectively by improving their technology, streamlining load times, and providing lag-free responsiveness in their online sports betting applications.
