The BYD Sealion 06 SUV, the latest addition to BYD's Ocean lineup, showcases innovative technologies in electric and plug-in hybrid powertrains, safety, and smart connectivity. Built on BYD's proprietary e-Platform 3.0 Evo 800-volt architecture for its electric variants and incorporating the fifth-generation DM-i hybrid system for plug-in hybrid versions, the Sealion 06 offers a range of powertrain options and advanced features.
Key features of the Sealion 06 include a variety of powertrain options. Electric variants offer single- or dual-motor setups, with power outputs ranging from 170 kW (228 hp) to 180 kW (241 hp). Battery packs include 65.28 kWh or 78.72 kWh BYD Blade batteries, delivering a CLTC range up to 610 km. Plug-in hybrids pair a 1.5-liter petrol engine (74 kW, 126 Nm) with a 160 kW electric motor, supported by a 26.6 kWh Blade battery in the extended range model, providing up to 140 km electric-only range and a remarkable combined driving range exceeding 1,000 km (up to 1,250 km WLTP in some variants).
The Sealion 06's battery technology utilizes BYD’s Blade battery, known for its safety, high energy density, and durability. The extended range version’s battery capacity is increased by 45% compared to earlier versions, boosting EV-only range significantly.
Safety and driver assistance are at the forefront of the Sealion 06's design. The vehicle is equipped with seven airbags, over 30 advanced safety functions, and BYD’s intelligent driving system called “God’s Eye” (DiPilot 100). Currently, it supports highway navigation-assisted driving (NOA), with plans to expand via over-the-air updates. Additional smart features include Sentinel Mode (security monitoring), Remote View, NFC keyless access, and in-vehicle ETC for toll payments. A large rear wiper covers 87.3% of the rear windshield area, enhancing visibility under adverse conditions.
The Sealion 06's interior boasts spacious cargo capacity, with a 757-liter rear trunk expandable to 1,630 liters, plus a 142-liter front trunk (frunk). Premium cabin features such as ventilated and heated front seats using an air-suction cooling system, a panoramic sunroof of 1.73 m², and a high-end Dynaudio audio system exclusive in this segment are also available. The high-tech cabin includes a prominent 15.6-inch floating infotainment screen, a smaller digital instrument cluster, wireless charging pads, multiple storage compartments, and even a built-in fridge.
The EV's 800-volt platform supports faster DC charging, while the PHEV supports 54 kW DC fast charging and up to 3.3 kW external power discharge for off-grid device charging.
With a starting price of RMB 139,800 ($19,540) for the Sealion 06 DM-i and RMB 143,800 for the Sealion 06 EV, the Sealion 06 offers a competitive midsize SUV blending cutting-edge battery and hybrid tech, advanced driver-assist systems, and premium comfort and convenience features in China.
