Kenya Welcomes Tanzania's Reversal of Ban on Kenyan Businesses

Kenyan authorities have welcomed Tanzania's decision to reverse a ban on non-citizens operating in certain business sectors. The move, following bilateral talks, has been praised for fostering cooperation and integration between the two nations.

In July, Tanzania prohibited non-citizens, including Kenyans, from operating small businesses such as retail sales, mobile money transfers, phone repairs, and salons. The ban, which carried penalties of up to Sh495,000 in fines, six months imprisonment, and visa revocation, was met with sharp criticism.

Following negotiations, Tanzania agreed to exempt Kenyan-owned businesses from the ban. Kenyan nationals running businesses in Tanzania can now continue operating without fear of interference. The Kenyan government has encouraged its citizens to reach out to the Kenyan High Commission in Tanzania for any support or information.

The reversal of the ban is a positive step towards fostering business cooperation between Kenya and Tanzania. Kenyan nationals can resume their operations in Tanzania, contributing to the economic ties between the two countries.
