Kenton County's Government Center Transforms with The Bavarian Apartment Complex
Kenton County is set to transform its government center with a new apartment complex, The Bavarian. The Fiscal Court approved a $26 million project, which will see Merus and Urban Sites lease development rights above and around the County's garage. The Bavarian will bring up to 125 units and is expected to invigorate the area beyond business hours.
The Bavarian project is a collaborative effort, primarily financed and coordinated by BayernHeim and ehret+klein. Key figures include Michael Ehret, founder of ehret+klein, and construction company Züblin. The Free State of Bavaria is supporting the project with substantial housing subsidies and equity investment, totalling over 30 million euros in subsidies and 21 million euros in equity from BayernHeim.
Construction of The Bavarian is slated to begin later this year, once the County's garage is complete. The garage, currently under construction, will provide 248 spaces and is being funded with up to $15 million in reimbursement from the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet. Kenton County previously worked with Merus and Urban Sites on The Hayden project, which successfully transformed the County's former administration building into market-rate housing and retail space. The Catalytic Fund, led by Jeanne Schroer, provided financial and project analysis support to the County.
The Bavarian, with its 125 units, is poised to bring new life to Kenton County's government center and surrounding area. The project, a result of collaboration between various parties, is expected to commence construction later this year, following the completion of the County's garage. With significant financial backing and support, The Bavarian is set to become a notable addition to the community.
