Gas Supplies in Kazakhstan during the 2024-2025 Heating Season: What's Next?

In the heat of a Kazakhstan winter, a powwow at the Ministry of Energy earlier this year highlighted the success story of the 2024-2025 gas supply and the nation's increased appetite for natural gas.

The meeting, headed by Vice-Minister Alibek Jamauov, focused on wrapping up the previous heating season's outcomes and strategic moves for the following winter. The who's who in the group of companies AO "QazaqGaz Aimaq," spearheaded by General Director Bauyrzhan Askarov, were there to share insights.

And they had a lot to talk about. Kazakhstan's gas delivery and distribution systems had stood the test of winter, keeping homes and businesses blessed with gas without a hitch. The heating season's high point in January 2025 saw gas consumption peaking at 4,582 thousand cubic meters per hour. The dispatch service managed a whopping 46,000 requests, while over 4,000 specialists—including tireless duty crews—took care of more than 72,500 kilometers of pipelines and 35,000 objects around the clock.

According to Vice-Minister Jamauov, the stable performance was a testament to diligent preparation and teamwork. He encouraged AO "QazaqGaz Aimaq" to get a head start on the 2025-2026 winter heating season, ensuring every detail isj ironed out. Moreover, he also urged the acceleration of efforts to deploy the "Social Wallet" digital service across the entirety of the Republic. This tool promises to give a much-needed boost to the accessibility and transparency of social support.

Though the finer details of Kazakhstan's 2025-2026 winter game plan remain under wraps, recent reports suggest the country is gearing up for the challenge. Kazakhstan has been working on a 2025-2026 action plan for uninterrupted coal supplies, coordinating with local bodies, Kazakhstan Temir Zholy, and coal companies[1]. Moreover, QazaqGaz is knee-deep in an ambitious pipeline project designed to bolster the nation's energy infrastructure[2].

It's a frozen, fascinating landscape up ahead, folks. Stay tuned for updates from the front lines!

The meeting at the Ministry of Energy discussed strategies for the upcoming 2025-2026 winter heating season, with a focus on the energy sector, particularly gas supplies and the nation's infrastructure, including the ongoing pipeline project by AO "QazaqGaz Aimaq." The vice-minister also emphasized the need to expedite the deployment of the "Social Wallet" digital service, which aims to increase accessibility and transparency in finance and business activities across Kazakhstan.

Renovation aid under MaPrimeRenov could potentially face a suspension, with the government contemplating the halting of this support from July until the year's end. The reason for this proposed action appears to be the depletion of credits intended for 2025.
