Kazakhstan & Azerbaijan Boost Strategic Partnership with Caspian Green Energy Corridor
Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan are bolstering their strategic partnership, with a focus on the Caspian Green Energy Corridor. This ambitious project aims to transport renewable energy from Central Asia to Europe via the Caucasus. The feasibility study is backed by international financing institutions, including the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), the Asian Development Bank (ADB), and the World Bank.
The Caspian Green Energy Corridor project seeks to deliver 1.7 million tons of Kazakh oil through the Aktau-Baku-Jeyhan route by 2025. This route is a vital export artery, with 1.06 million tons transported in 2023. The ministers of energy from both countries, Yerlan Akkenzhenov of Kazakhstan and Parviz Shahbazov of Azerbaijan, recently convened during Kazenergy Week-2025 to discuss this project.
The meeting centered around the development of transportation infrastructure, a pivotal aspect of the Caspian Green Energy Corridor. A joint venture of system operators from Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, and Uzbekistan has been formed to facilitate this process. The feasibility study for this joint venture is currently in progress, with backing from international financial institutions.
The Caspian Green Energy Corridor project is poised to substantially enhance energy cooperation between Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan. With the support of international financing institutions, the project aims to deliver clean energy to Europe, fostering the region's energy security and sustainability.
