Judicial official Orenge dismissed due to severe professional misbehavior
Former Nakuru Principal Magistrate Isaac Orenge has been dismissed from the judicial service, following a decision made by the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) on July 30, 2025. The dismissal came after an investigation into Orenge's conduct in Milimani Commercial Suit CMCC 1111 of 2018.
The JSC conducted investigations against Orenge following a complaint by Suleiman Murunga (deceased). The investigation was in relation to Orenge's issuance of ex-parte eviction orders against one of the parties in the suit. The party in question was subsequently evicted, and the premises demolished pursuant to the orders issued by Orenge.
During the disciplinary proceedings, which took place in 2012, the JSC reviewed charges, written responses, submissions, and oral documentary evidence presented at the hearing. The JSC found a case of gross misconduct against Orenge in relation to his conduct in Milimani Commercial Suit CMCC 1111 of 2018.
Orenge later discharged the same eviction orders on grounds that the court lacked jurisdiction. However, the JSC noted that the dismissal of Orenge followed the issuance of the final eviction orders at a provisional stage without confirming proper service on the party.
Orenge served as Principal Magistrate in Nakuru between 2020 and 2024. One of his notable cases was a hate speech case against Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi. Sudi was acquitted in 2022.
The JSC resolved to dismiss Orenge from the judicial service, and the dismissal was confirmed by the JSC. Orenge is no longer part of the judicial service due to his dismissal.
This decision by the JSC marks a significant development in the judicial system, as it underscores the importance of proper procedure and due process in the issuance of court orders. It also serves as a reminder to all judicial officers of the need to uphold the rule of law and the principles of justice in the performance of their duties.
