Jeep Compass Undergoes Directional Restart
The Jeep Compass is poised to take centre stage in Germany's automotive market, with plans to become the backbone of sales in the mid-term and the top-selling model in the long run. According to Jeep boss Luigi Saia, this ambitious goal will be achieved through a combination of strategic partnerships and the introduction of electric and hybrid variants.
The third generation of the Compass will offer a range of powertrain options, including mild hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and battery electric vehicles. The all-wheel-drive electric version of the Compass will be the top model, providing the crucial 4x4 option that is synonymous with the off-road brand.
The "First Edition" of the Compass will be available with a 107 kW / 145 PS mild hybrid gasoline engine and, for the first time, as a pure electric vehicle with 157 kW / 213 PS and front-wheel drive. Additional electric variants, including a plug-in hybrid, another electric variant with a long-range battery, and an all-wheel-drive version with electric power on both axles, are scheduled for early 2026. It is estimated that the electric version of the Compass will account for approximately one quarter of the sales at launch.
While the Compass will be the focus of Jeep's strategy in Germany, the Recon and the Wagoneer S are expected to serve as image boosters rather than volume drivers. These models are set to launch in North America at the end of 2025, with Europe following in 2026.
The smaller Avenger, meanwhile, targets new customer groups and icons like the Wrangler are expected to emotionally charge the brand in Germany. Jeep Germany is currently up 10 percent in new registrations, a testament to the brand's growing popularity in the country.
In order to support this growth, Jeep Germany has increased its dealer network by 30 percent. The Compass, which will continue to be built in Italy like its predecessor, is set to launch in November. The Compass will switch to the STLA Medium architecture from Stellantis in its third generation.
Looking ahead to 2026, Jeep will launch two new electric-powered models in Europe: the fully electric Jeep Compass with versions including a long-range battery and an all-wheel-drive (AWD) electric variant, and the Jeep Cherokee featuring a hybrid powertrain based on a 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with electric support. The Compass aims to become Jeep's volume model in Germany with multiple electrified options, including plug-in hybrid and AWD electric, while the Cherokee returns as a mid-size SUV with advanced hybrid technology and classic Jeep design elements.
Saia aims for clear growth by 2026 with the full lineup of Jeep vehicles. Until the new Compass launch, Jeep Germany will rely on the Avenger and remaining Compass stock. The compact SUV series has many fans in Germany and is expected to become Jeep's top-selling model in the mid-term.
