With BMW breathing new life into the "New Class" tag, there's both excitement and pressure. Living up to such history isn't easy. And while the BMW engineers were feeling the heat during development phase of the New Class, they managed to create a game-changer. Recently, ntv.de had the chance to test the iX3 with a focus on infotainment, technology, and driving dynamics.

If you look closely, you can see a glimpse of the future iX3's design – the narrow historical kidney grille. But that's not the main highlight; this mid-size SUV truly shines in the digital realm. The interface on the central touchscreen is a feast for digital natives, offering a personalized experience thanks to the expansive Panoramic iDrive screen[1]. The screen offers numerous configurable options, including current radio station, altitude display, and others. However, you can't combine every option; there's a limitation to convenience[1].

But as you marvel at the screen's design, it's time to test the iX3's driving dynamics control systems. Hold onto your seat because this electric SUV handles like a dream. Initially, it may seem a tad heavy[2], but the agile way it negotiates corners surprises even the most seasoned drivers. The steering is a delightful blend of lightness and precision, making you forget you're behind the wheel of an electric vehicle[2]. Those who previously criticized electric vehicles for their lack of engine sound might find solace in the iX3, as its dynamic performance more than compensates[2].

Safety-wise, the iX3 no longer relies on adaptive dampers for smooth handling. Instead, it uses its "Heart of Joy" – a single integrated processor controlling motors, regenerative braking, traction control, ESP, and more, ensuring a smoother, more efficient ride[1][3]. And speaking of efficiency, the iX3 can take in electricity at lightning speeds during charging, thanks to its 800-volt system[1]. Although more data is needed to verify these claims, it's safe to say that the iX3's charging performance is impressive.

In addition to its advanced driving dynamics and technology, the iX3 also boasts user-friendly advanced driver assistance systems. Thanks to improvements in automatic parking systems, you can now position yourself loosely in front of a potential parking spot[1]. Simply tap the screen, and the iX3 will handle the rest, with the system parking the vehicle in several steps if needed[1].

While BMW remains tight-lipped about the iX3's battery consumption, electric range, and other details, we can say that this mid-size SUV offers a smooth, powerful, and connected driving experience. BMW enthusiasts will be able to see the uncamouflaged iX3 for the first time during the IAA Mobility in September[1].
