Stefan Zimkeit Proposes Comprehensive Investment Plan for North Rhine-Westphalia
In a bold move to address the state's economic challenges, Stefan Zimkeit, the financial spokesman for the SPD parliamentary group, has unveiled a future investment program worth 6.5 billion euros. The proposed plan, aimed at modernizing public infrastructure and social services, forms a significant part of the SPD's agenda for the state budget 2023.
The plan focuses on several key areas. In the realm of education, Zimkeit proposes substantial funding to modernize and expand school facilities, with a view to improving learning environments and accommodating growing student numbers. Addressing the housing shortage is another priority. The state budget allocates funds to boost housing construction, with an additional 100 million euros earmarked for housing companies oriented towards the common good.
Criticizing the black-green coalition's plans to reduce investments, Zimkeit argues that the lack of investments in Oberhausen and the Ruhr region would worsen the investment backlog and accelerate the economic downturn. The SPD wants to reverse the black-green state government's planned cancellation of the "Modern Sports Facility" program and provide 100 million euros for its renovation in the coming year.
As a member of the state parliament for Oberhausen-Sterkrade, Zimkeit emphasizes the need for these investments, stating that North Rhine-Westphalia, considered the "national tail-lighter" in terms of economic development, urgently requires such a comprehensive investment plan.
