Geely Galaxy E5: A Sporty and Efficient Electric SUV
The automotive world is abuzz with anticipation for the upcoming Geely Galaxy E5, a new electric SUV set to make its debut at the Beijing Auto Show in April. Online pundits claim the Galaxy E5 shares some resemblance with luxury cars like the Porsche Macan and Mercedes ECQ, but what truly sets it apart is its focus on new energy vehicles and a sporty, futuristic design.
The Galaxy E5's exterior design is intended to give the SUV a sporty appearance, with low-wind-resistance alloy wheels that complement its futuristic look. It features a Light Cosmos Dynamic grille, sharp headlights, and L-shaped air intake trim, similarities it shares with its sibling model, the Galaxy E8. The rear design includes a continuous taillight design and a large spoiler, adding to its athletic aesthetic.
One of the key aspects of the Galaxy E5's design is its electric powertrain. As a new energy vehicle, the Galaxy E5 specializes in electric power, with a single front electric motor delivering 160 kW (218 PS) power and 320 Nm torque. The vehicle is equipped with a new larger 68.39 kWh Aegis lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery, providing a CLTC range of up to 610 km and fast charging from 30% to 80% in just 20 minutes.
Inside, the Galaxy E5 offers a range of premium comfort features. The front seats come with heating, ventilation, and massage functions, while the second-row seatbacks have a two-stage recline. The SUV is also equipped with a 16-speaker advanced Flyme Sound audio system, an open panoramic sunroof, a Head-Up Display (HUD), and 50W wireless mobile phone charging. The interior also boasts 256-color ambient lighting and customizable lock reminder sounds.
The Galaxy E5 is also packed with advanced technology. It includes an L2-level assisted driving system (ADAS), Amap navigation with a green wave travel function for anticipating traffic lights, screen cleaning, self-service car wash mode, and Flyme Sound integration within QQ Music. The vehicle also features an improved vehicle-to-load (V2L) function, delivering up to 6.6 kW, useful for powering external devices.
The Galaxy E5 is a compact SUV, with dimensions roughly 4615 mm in length, aimed at urban mobility but with a strong range and comfort package for both city and longer drives. The starting price in China is about 109,800 RMB (~$15,300 USD), positioning it competitively in the compact electric SUV segment.
Geely Galaxy is expanding its lineup of new energy vehicles with the introduction of the Galaxy E5, which is their first global product, with both left-hand drive and right-hand drive versions under development. The brand aims to introduce three new models in 2024, all built on the latest architecture, as part of their ambition to expand their presence beyond the domestic market and reach a wider international audience.
The official unveiling of the Galaxy E5 is scheduled at the Beijing Auto Show, where more details might be revealed. With its sporty design, advanced technology, and competitive pricing, the Galaxy E5 aims to offer a compelling option in the competitive electric SUV market.
