Increased Costs for Your Thanksgiving Feast This Season
The American Farm Bureau Federation (AFBF) has released the predicted average cost of a traditional Thanksgiving dinner for 10 people in the United States this year. According to their survey, the total cost will be $49.41.
John Anderson, Deputy Chief Economist of the AFBF, stated that this equates to approximately $5 per serving. The survey, conducted with 179 volunteers in 35 states, did not differentiate between organic, conventional, or gourmet ingredients. It also did not specify the exact ingredients or brands used for the calculation of the average cost.
The survey included the prices of turkey, stuffing, sweet potatoes, dinner rolls, peas, cranberries, a relish tray of carrots and celery, pumpkin pie, coffee, milk, and leftovers. It did not include the cost of side dishes or desserts beyond those listed, nor did it consider regional variations in the cost of living or grocery prices.
Moreover, the survey did not take into account any special deals or promotions when checking prices. It was conducted in various grocery stores across 35 states.
This year's average cost is an increase of 37 cents from last year's average cost of $49.04. John Anderson described the average cost as being less than the cost of most fast-food meals.
Despite the slight increase, the AFBF predicts that a traditional Thanksgiving dinner remains an affordable option for many families in the United States.
