Increased Dependability on Buses and Trains Requires Time - Improved Bus and Rail Dependability Demands Patience

Berlin, Germany - Transport Senator Ute Bonde, a CDU politician, has announced that the Berlin Transport Authority (BVG) is working towards achieving 99 percent reliability in U-Bahn, bus, and tram services in the medium term.

The BVG launched a "Stability before Growth" strategy at the beginning of the year, with significant improvements already being reported. As of mid-July, the reliability of buses has reached 99 percent, trams 97.3 percent, and U-Bahn 93.6 percent according to the latest figures published by BVG.

However, Ute Bonde acknowledged that past mistakes cannot be corrected quickly. She expects it will take at least another one to two years for the BVG to reach the required 99 percent reliability.

The U-Bahn, which has been experiencing issues with breakdowns, reduced frequencies, and delays, is expected to show noticeable improvements in the autumn. New U-Bahn trains are expected to arrive in the autumn, easing the situation on the U-Bahn.

Currently, BVG staff is being trained for the new U-Bahn trains, causing a shortage of drivers. The "Tagesspiegel" was informed about the expected timeline for BVG to regain high reliability by Ute Bonde.

The target for all three areas remains 99 percent reliability. The Berlin Transport Authority is hopeful that with continued efforts and the implementation of the "Stability before Growth" strategy, they will be able to provide a more reliable service to the people of Berlin in the near future.
