Illegal Employment Scheme Busted at Dortmund Restaurant
On August 9, 2023, officials from the Main Customs Office Dortmund discovered an illegal employment scheme at a nearby Asian restaurant in Castrop-Rauxel. The restaurant's management is now under investigation for aiding and abetting illegal residence and employment of workers without valid permits.
Two individuals, a 38-year-old woman and a 35-year-old man, were found working at the nearby restaurant. Both presented valid Macedonian passports but lacked residence permits allowing them to work in Germany. The customs officers, acting on a tip, initiated criminal proceedings against them for suspected illegal residence.
The employer faces severe consequences. They are accused of aiding and abetting illegal residence and employment of workers without valid permits. This could result in a prison sentence of up to ten years and a fine of up to 500,000 euros. The restaurant's management is involved as suspects in the ongoing criminal proceedings.
The two individuals were provisionally arrested, and their Bulgarian ID cards were found to be forgeries. The investigation into the restaurant's management continues. This incident underscores the importance of proper immigration procedures and the consequences of violating them.
