Hyundai Prepares Next-Gen i20 for 2026 Debut

Hyundai is gearing up for the launch of the next-generation i20, a B-segment hatchback that is set to enter the sub-compact crossover SUV market. According to recent reports, prototype testing for the new i20 is already underway in Spain, with the presentation and market launch expected not before 2026.

The upcoming i20 is expected to carry major changes to the cabin, featuring revamped interiors with new materials. The new dashboard will sport a modern, digital cockpit layout, and the front row seats will be powered and ventilated for added comfort.

In terms of design, the new i20 will boast a crossover design, growing out of the hatchback segment. It may also come with a sunroof, adding to its premium feel. The new display for the infotainment and cluster is another anticipated feature.

Under the hood, the new i20 will continue to be ICE-powered, offering the same engine options as currently available in India. This includes a 1.2-litre 4-cylinder NA petrol and a 1.0-litre 3-cylinder turbo-petrol unit. However, globally, Hyundai is expected to offer the new i20 with mild-hybrid tech, but this variant may not make it to Indian shores.

The next-gen i20 is not expected to be electrified for the Indian market, but it will include an ADAS Level-2 suite for improved safety and driving assistance.

When it comes to competition, the upcoming i20 is expected to rival the Kia Sonet and the Tata Nexon in the sub-compact crossover SUV market. With its crossover design and anticipated features, the new i20 aims to offer a compelling choice for consumers in this segment.

The next-gen Hyundai i20 is part of the next-gen launch, and a potential market launch for the new i20 is slated for early 2027. While we eagerly await its official unveiling, it's clear that the new i20 is shaping up to be an exciting addition to Hyundai's lineup.
