Hong Kong is gearing up to host the 15th National Games of China in November 2025, with an additional investment of HK$30 million (US$3.8 million) to support the city's athletes and ensure the smooth running of the events.
The National Games, which will feature more than 400 events across 34 sports, will see Hong Kong host eight competition sports events from November 9 to 21, 2025. These include basketball (men under 22), cycling track, fencing, golf, handball (men), rugby sevens, triathlon, and beach volleyball.
In addition, there will be one mass participation event: Bowling, and for the 12th National Games for Persons with Disabilities and the 9th National Special Olympic Games held in December 2025, Hong Kong will organize Boccia, Wheelchair Fencing, Para Table Tennis (TT11), Para Dance Sport (mass participation), and Special Olympic Table Tennis.
The sports venues for the National Games have already completed test runs and are ready. George Tsoi Kin-pan, the Commissioner for Sports in Hong Kong, has stated that minor issues, such as athlete access to locker rooms after warm-ups, will be addressed.
This additional allocation is in addition to the HK$15 million already budgeted for athletes' preparation, including training. The focus of work in the coming three months is on optimizing every aspect of the National Games events to ensure their smooth running.
Tickets for four of the events hosted in Hong Kong—Rugby Sevens, Beach Volleyball, Men’s Handball, and Men’s Under-22 Basketball—went on sale starting August 28, aiming to make attendance affordable for the public.
The investment will support athlete development in these sports, many of which will take place in iconic venues like the Kai Tak Sports Park. The National Games will be staged in the Greater Bay Area, which comprises Hong Kong, Macau, and nine Guangdong province cities.
The 15th edition of the National Games is scheduled for November. The National Games events are under a countdown, and Hong Kong is ready to showcase its capabilities as a host city and compete in key sporting disciplines within the Games.
The additional investment of HK$30 million will bolster sports development, particularly in basketball, cycling track, fencing, golf, handball, rugby sevens, triathlon, beach volleyball, bowling, Boccia, Wheelchair Fencing, Para Table Tennis, Para Dance Sport, and Special Olympic Table Tennis.
The National Games, with events like Rugby Sevens, Beach Volleyball, Men’s Handball, and Men’s Under-22 Basketball, will showcase sports and finance harmoniously, as these events endeavor to make attendance affordable for the public, while also catering to the city's athletic enthusiasm.
