BYD's High-End Yangwang Brand Expands to Europe, U8L Luxury SUV Launches in China
BYD, a leading Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer, is set to launch its high-end Yangwang brand in Europe, marking a significant expansion for the company. However, the spotlight is currently on the Yangwang U8L, a luxury SUV that officially debuted at the Shanghai Auto Show on April 23, 2025.
The U8L is a larger, more luxurious variant of the Yangwang U8, boasting an extended wheelbase and a six-seat interior layout. It is built on BYD's e4 technology and is powered by four electric motors, delivering over 1,000 horsepower.
Interested Chinese customers can reserve the Yangwang U8L for RMB 20,000 and receive a RMB 30,000 optional feature fund. The pre-sales price of the U8L Dingshi Edition is RMB 1.3 million ($180,700), making it one of the most expensive models available in China from a domestic automaker.
The U8L's price in RMB is yet to be specified. Pre-orders for the U8L began on July 31, 2025, accompanied by a special launch event at 2:30 PM Beijing time. Despite the pre-sales, the official launch date for the Yangwang U8L has not yet been determined.
The Yangwang U8, the original model, has a starting price of RMB 1.098 million. In contrast, the Yangwang U9, a two-seat electric supercar, has a starting price of RMB 1.68 million. The Yangwang U7 sedan has a starting price of RMB 628,000.
In June, Yangwang sold 205 vehicles, a year-on-year decrease of 50.96 percent, but a month-on-month increase of 47.48 percent. In the same month, the Yangwang U8 sold 64 units, the U9 sold 9 units, and the U7 sold 132 units.
The U8L features a gold logo made from 24K pure gold, and it uses BYD’s advanced technologies, including the DiSus-P body control system, the most advanced branch of the DiSus system. This system promises to deliver a smooth and comfortable ride.
While the Yangwang U8L is making waves in China, it is the European market that BYD has its sights set on. With the launch of its high-end Yangwang brand, BYD aims to challenge the dominance of established luxury car brands and bring affordable luxury to a wider audience.
