The Road to Nowhere: A Problematic Stretch on the Tuyhket-Chindat Highway in Krasnoyarsk Krai

Things aren't looking good on the Tuyhket-Chindat highway in Krasnoyarsk Krai. After a harsh winter, the road seems to have vanished, replaced by a treacherous sludge that's no ride for any vehicle. And it's all thanks to those big rigs - local residents have been barraging the transport department with complaints.

According to the authorities, it all comes down to the thawing of the road surface and the movement of heavy machinery during the season[1].

"On April 14, due to erosion of the road surface at the 104th kilometer, traffic was halted. The following day, the erosion was addressed and traffic was resumed," they explained.

The trickiest part of this road lies between the 38th and 42nd kilometers. Currently, a contractor is transporting inert material to a pit on the 21st kilometer of the road. Soon, road crews will be tackling the excavation of clay and restoring the road surface.

Local residents are advised to avoid traveling for now.

The department added that, as part of a national project, repairs will begin this year on the stretch of this road from the 72nd to the 76th kilometer, situated near the Kandat river bridge. The complete project is scheduled for completion next year.

Previously, extensive work had already been done on this route: in 2020-2021, sections from the 76th to the 80th kilometer and from the 94th to the 98th kilometer were repaired, and the 84th to 94th kilometer section is expected to be worked on in 2023-2024.
