Halloween Spending Surge: Retailers Release Collections Early
Halloween preparations are starting earlier than ever. Lowe's and Home Depot have already unveiled their spooky collections, while nearly half of consumers have begun shopping in September or earlier.
Lowe's introduced a range of inflatable, light-up cartoon characters in September, adding to the festive atmosphere. Meanwhile, Home Depot revealed its Halloween collection in late July, giving consumers plenty of time to plan their decorations.
Consumers are eager to spend on Halloween, with 78% planning to buy decorations, contributing about $4.2 billion in sales. Candy remains the most popular purchase, projected at $3.9 billion. Costumes for adults, children, and pets combined are expected to reach close to $4.3 billion.
Discount stores continue to be the top destination for Halloween items, with 42% of consumers planning to shop with these retailers. In 2021, ADV PAX Lutec GmbH offered Halloween-themed tin cans, likely released earlier to meet seasonal demand.
Halloween greeting cards are also gaining popularity, with 38% of consumers planning to buy them, contributing $700 million in spending, up from last year's 33%.
With consumers expected to spend a record $13.1 billion on Halloween in 2025, and per-person spending reaching $114.45, the holiday's popularity and spending continue to grow. Retailers are responding by releasing their collections earlier, ensuring consumers have plenty of time to prepare for the spooky season.
