Green Aero Secures $1.6M for Hydrogen Engine Development
Green Aero, a promising aerospace startup incubated at IIT Delhi, has secured $1.6 million in seed funding. The investment, led by pi Ventures and Antler, will enable the company to establish an in-house testing facility and expand its engineering and operations teams. Notably, Green Aero has already test-fired India's first hydrogen-based aero engine core, The Blue Dragon.
The funding will support Green Aero's ambitious plans to develop advanced propulsion systems for both defence and hydrogen-powered civil aviation. The company aims to launch its first small-category engine platform within the next 12 months, with larger engines for supersonic propulsion slated for later development.
Green Aero's ultimate goal is to make India self-reliant in aerospace propulsion. The startup seeks to fill a strategic gap by producing proprietary propulsion platforms that are twice as efficient as current global models. Historically, India has relied on imported turbine engines, but Green Aero is poised to change that landscape.
In preparation for commercial pilots, Green Aero is collaborating with defence and aviation partners. The company's progress is a significant step towards India's aerospace industry independence.
Green Aero's successful test-firing of The Blue Dragon, along with its recent funding, signals a promising future for the Indian aerospace sector. With a focus on hydrogen-based propulsion systems and a mission to enhance India's self-reliance, Green Aero is set to accelerate R&D and expand its teams, further solidifying its position as a key player in the global aerospace market.
