The German region of Saxony-Anhalt is driving forward its commitment to sustainable energy with the "Saxony-Anhalt FUTURE ENERGIES" program. This regional funding initiative, run by the Ministry of Science, Energy, Environment and Climate Protection, supports investments in innovative and climate-friendly energy projects, including the growth of the hydrogen economy [1].

The program, which is funded by the European Fund for Regional Development (EFRE), is providing financial backing to promote sustainable energy technologies and industrial innovation in the region. One key area of focus is green hydrogen production, with projects such as the construction of new electrolysis plants for renewable hydrogen generation [1].

For instance, the program has approved funding for Linde to build an additional 5-megawatt electrolysis plant in Leuna. By the end of 2026, this facility is expected to produce around 450 tonnes of green hydrogen annually [1]. This project is a testament to the program's goal of strengthening the hydrogen economy in Saxony-Anhalt through efficient and climate-friendly technologies.

The program also supports investments in the production of green hydrogen and the provision of heat, as well as the intelligent coupling of the energy sectors electricity, gas, and heat. The aim is to increase the use of green hydrogen in the region and use electricity from renewable energy sources more for the production of green hydrogen or the provision of heat [1].

Currently, the installed electrolyzer capacity for the production of green hydrogen in Saxony-Anhalt stands at approximately 60 megawatts. The "Saxony-Anhalt FUTURE ENERGIES" program is designed to help this capacity grow, signaling support for innovation and industrial future in the region [1]. The program is open to both private and public companies, encouraging them to invest in sustainable energy solutions.

In summary, the "Saxony-Anhalt FUTURE ENERGIES" program is helping to finance investments in green hydrogen production facilities, accelerating the development of a sustainable hydrogen economy in the region. This initiative is a significant step towards a greener, more sustainable future for Saxony-Anhalt.
