The OECD Slashes Global Growth Forecasts Amid Trade Disputes

Here's the deal, folks. The economic landscape is looking less than rosy, according to the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). The main reasons? Sky-high trade barriers, stricter financial conditions, plummeting confidence, and escalating political chaos - all of which are projected to negatively impact growth.

For Germany, they're pretty much sticking to their guns when it comes to economic growth predictions. They're still aiming for 0.4% growth this year, with a projected 1.2% for the year 2026. As for the good ol' USA, their GDP isn't looking quite as rosy. Instead of the initially predicted 2.2% in 2025, it's now forecasted to grow by only 1.6%. And in 2026, that growth is estimated to drop even further to 1.5%.

Donald Trump, our beloved President, has been pushing a tough trade policy since his inauguration for his second term in January. This escalation has sent shivers down the spines of global supply chains and stock markets. Before the OECD report even saw the light of day, Trump took to his social media platform Truth Social, boasting that "Our economy is booming because of tariffs!"

Meanwhile, the OECD council will be gathering in the beautiful city of Paris for a chat at ministerial level. Germany's Minister of Economics, Katherina Reiche, will also be present at this meeting. Insiders predict that representatives from both the USA and EU will be discussing tariffs on the sidelines of the event.

The OECD's Secretary-General, Mathias Cormann, issued a stern plea, stating that "Governments must work together to address issues in the global trading system positively and constructively through open dialogue - and to keep markets open and reap the benefits of rule-based global trade."
