Germany Raids Construction Firm Over Alleged Illegal Turkish Worker Scheme
Authorities in Germany have conducted a major raid on a construction company in Tübingen, suspecting illegal employment practices involving workers from Turkey. Around 200 officers, including customs investigators, special police forces, and IT forensics teams, searched multiple residential and business premises. The operation, which has been ongoing for over a year, has so far led to the arrest of three suspects and the discovery of alleged fraudulent contracts with a non-existent Turkish social security office.
The raid, which also involved a cash-sniffing dog, targeted the construction company accused of employing workers without proper social security documentation. Simultaneous controls were carried out on several of the company's construction sites in Baden-Württemberg and Lower Saxony. The investigation, led by the Main Customs Office Ulm, has uncovered damages totalling 2.5 million euros to social security contributions and the construction industry's social security fund.
The suspects are accused of illegally bringing approximately 300 workers from Turkey to Germany. Despite extensive searches, no specific information about the Turkish social security office or individuals involved in the alleged contracts has been found. The contracts are believed to have been a facade, with no such social security office existing in the market there.
The raids and investigations are ongoing, with authorities continuing to gather evidence and make arrests. The suspected illegal employment practices have resulted in significant financial losses to social security funds. The construction company and the arrested suspects are expected to face further legal action.
