Germany: Avoid Parking Fines With These Blue Disc Tips
Motorists in Germany are reminded of the proper use of the blue parking disc to avoid fines. Incorrect usage, such as setting the arrival time instead of rounding up, can lead to penalties, even for correctly parked vehicles.
The blue parking disc, a common sight in German streets, was introduced through amendments to the German Road Traffic Regulations (StVO) by the Federal Government. Its correct use is crucial to avoid fines.
One common mistake is setting the arrival time on the disc instead of rounding up to the nearest half hour. This can result in a warning fine ranging from 20 to 40 euros. For instance, if a driver parks for 1 hour and 15 minutes, they should set the disc to 1 hour and 30 minutes.
The disc must be clearly visible and easily readable from outside the vehicle, preferably placed behind the windshield. Once the maximum parking time is reached, the driver must leave the parking space and cannot adjust the disc during parking.
To avoid unnecessary fines, drivers should ensure their parking disc is correctly set, visible, and not tampered with during parking. The blue parking disc is a simple tool that, when used correctly, helps manage parking spaces efficiently.
